Review of Pikmin 3

Thanks to the free download that comes with Mario Kart I managed to get my hands on Pikmin 3. A game I have been meaning to get for a long time just haven’t had the chance and honestly when I heard of this deal I used that chance to save money. Did this game live up to the previous game?

First let’s talk about the pros of the game. The visuals were nice and all the maps were vibrant and amazing. Second was the juice factor because it did add an element of difficulty that was not in the second game but something that was not as stressful as the first game. The second thing I liked was the clever evolution the Pikmin went through. Using the Yellow Pikmin to complete circuits to power up lights in the caves did not blow the light bulbs but it did blow my mind because that was amazing. Also having under water areas really made the Blue Pikmin so much more useful. The exclusion of the Purple and White Pikmin was disappointing but understandable when you add the Rock and Flying Pikmin. I loved using the Rock Pikmin in combat because they were so destructive. Also the Flying Pikmin made it so much easier to send items back to the ships and honestly even I think they’re adorable. Sadly I really don’t have anything to say about Red Pikmin because they were used the same way they were in Pikmin two. The boss fights were so much fun and the final boss required every type of Pikmin to be used at random times it was so chaotic I loved every bit of it. Also having the boss fights in the map rather than in long and tedious holes in the ground made the game feel less monotonous. The final thing to mention is how there were many references to the previous Pikmin game and it was nice seeing Olimar and Louie again.

Now for the Cons. I was disappointed that there were no treasures to obtain in the game. The treasures added a lot of entertaining moments in the previous Pikmin games. Also the juice did add some difficulty but not much because after a certain point I had three weeks with of juice to the point where I honestly just didn’t care about the fruit anymore. I felt like the game was just too short overall because it really didn’t last long. The first four bosses had nice gaps between them but after the fourth boss the fifth and final boss just appeared so fast it almost gave me whiplash. Then finally the biggest thing I hated was the end of the game. In Pikmin 2 after the end of the game there were more things to do including an extra part of the story. In Pikmin 3 when you beat the game it just ends. No extras, and you can’t even play that file anymore without backing up to a previous day. Overall that was a little sad.
Final Verdict 9 out of 10
