Why Independent Content Creation is Important

After the news of both Tom Merrit over at TWIT and the crew over at Spill.com being informed they will not have a job in content creation at the beginning of next year, I became inspired to talk about why independent content creation is important and why I think Leo Laporte is making a very risky gamble.

  1. I don’t dislike Mike Elgan, but I don’t think he’s a good fit for TWiT.  Would it have been better for Tom to still be able to be in the studio?  Yes.  But even having him remotely seems, to me at least, a better fit for the overall demographics that TWiT is focued on than Elgan is.

  2. Labtec7 Donovan Adkisson I’m certainly not storming off, but I really only watch TNT about once to twice a month.  Sometimes Sarah Lane gets on my nerves (but that’s another discussion).  TWiT, overall, seems to have lost its grass roots appeal that made it so successful to start with.  I realize it’s a business, but the overall feel of the network now is just too corporate – and with the addition of someone like Elgan, it makes it doubly so.
